OUR STORY

The father and son team of Mario and Joey Marcella started Mario & Son in 1991 from very humble beginnings in a garage. The history of the company goes back even further, as Mario plied his trade, setting tile in the 1950’s. His expertise in working with tile led to the formation of the stone business. Mario’s experience in the trade, coupled with Joey’s youthful energy and creativeness, was the perfect recipe for a fledgling stone fabrication business. A few years later, Michael Marcella joined his family, bringing a no-nonsense, business-savvy background, completing the infrastructure for a rising successful company.

OUR CRAFT

There is nothing quite like the elegance and ambiance created by the addition of stonework in your home or business.  We enjoy nothing more than showing you how affordable these beautiful options can be. The options for stone are endless:  Gleaming countertops, sinks, showers and benches, stone inlay.  We have crafted pieces as unique as altars, baptismals, and custom signs.

At Mario & Son, you dream, we create.

Mario Marcella

Mario started his career in the ceramic tile trade in the 1950’s.  Coupled with his stone experience over the last two decades, he has nearly sixty years in the trades. Through the years Mario has been very active in youth organizations such as Junior Bloomsday, various area boxing clubs, and the Bloomsday Road Runners Association.  An avid runner, Mario has completed well over two dozen marathons, including three ultra-marathons, and rollerblading races around the country, many of which he has won awards for in his age category.  Although now retired from the family business, Mario is still involved in the stone industry as a member of the Rock Rollers lapidary (mineral) club of Spokane and through his own artistic musings that can be viewed at www.knivesinstone.com

Co-Founder & Retired

Michael joined Mario & Son in 1996 after earning degrees in business, medical technology and electronics. Although he has early experience in the ceramic tile industry as an apprentice in the family business, Michael followed a different career path. He spent time in the medical field and prior before joining Mario & Son, in the material science industry. He worked for five years at Johnson Matthey producing specialized components for the Department of Defense out of rare and exotic metals.  He is very active in the Pacific Judo Academy, holding a 3rd degree black belt, serving the organization as past president and currently as its treasurer. He has competed internationally and instructed both locally and internationally as well. Although Michael has operated some of our computerized machinery in the past, the last several years have been spent running the “numbers” side of Mario & Son; a perfect match with his extreme attention to detail and disciplined nature.
