Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between all of the different natural stone types?

The geological differences can be vast. Commercially – know that marble, onyx and soapstone are typically softer and more delicate. Granite is quite hard and well suited for countertops. Quartzite (not to be confused with manmade quartz) is even harder than granite, but also more difficult to process – usually resulting in a higher cost.

Do you sell to the public, or do I need a contractor?

We can sell to you directly, or work with your contractor. Our goal is to provide a custom stone solution for you that suits your project needs.

I already have a fabricator I’d like to work with. Can you sell slabs to them?

Absolutely! We carry a large selection of high quality natural stone, carefully curated and available for homeowners, builders, and other fabricators to purchase with or without our fabrication services. Additionally, we can re-polish, hone, or texture slabs as a standalone service, even if you are working with a different company.

How do I maintain my granite? How often do I have to seal it?

Maintenance of natural stone is easy. Simple washing with water and a PH neutral cleaner is often all that is needed. Avoid acidic cleaners and substances on marble. In regards to sealing, it really depends on the specific stone. The porosity can vary immensely, but typically, a three to five year regimen is sufficient. We can certainly recommend a more specific timeline for sealing once we know the exact product you are considering. *See blog for a more detailed response about sealing.

Does leathered / honed stone require different maintenance?

Not really. The cleanup process for leathered surfaces requires a few more swipes with the rag due to obvious grooves, but the stone is just as durable with any finish.

How long do the template and install appointments take?

The template appointment depends on the size and complexity of your project, but typically only takes an hour or two in your home for an average kitchen. Installation is generally completed in one day. Typical lead times depend on how busy we are, how complicated your project is, and the location of your project. However, our usual lead time is 2-3 weeks form template to install, as long as we are not waiting for final details, decisions, or material.

Do I need to be there?

A decision maker over 18 is required to answer questions and sign off on the digital detail during templating.  You are not required to be there for installation. If you are present during installation, please give our crew ample space and autonomy to work.

How much does it weigh?

It varies depending on the stone, but we typically figure about 13 lbs. per square foot for 2cm, and 20 lbs. per square foot for 3cm material. Some very dense stone can exceed these allowances.

Can I choose my own slabs?

In most cases yes. Additionally, we offer the opportunity to meet with our staff and participate in the exact layout of your project with our digital rendering software.
